Tuning forks make a sound when they are hit. Use a mallet to hit a tuning fork, and then touch the end of the tuning fork against the tip of your finger.
What if you don't have a tuning fork? OK- then you can try it with a metal tube. You need to be careful not to hit it so hard that you injure yourself!
What evidence do you find to prove that particles of the solid tuning fork are moving?
How can the particles of a solid tuning fork be moving?
Based on the above activity, what do you think will happen when you strike a tuning fork and stick it into water?
