Who Is An Organism?

You are! Organisms are living things.

Look at each of the pictures below and give it the "Organism Test."

  1. Does it grow?
  2. Can it move?
  3. Does it reproduce (make babies or seeds?)

Organisms are living things. Plants, animals, insects, birds and people and people are all living things. There are even living things that are so small you can’t see them.

You may be wondering about plants. You know plants grow and produce seeds or offspring, but can plants move? Yes. Some send their seeds on great journeys. Others even turn to face the sun.

Try It!
  1. This is Livamo. Pretend he is from another planet.
  2. Draw a picture or map for Livamo of five living things, organisms, he might find in your neighborhood.
  3. Be sure to pick things that pass the Organism Test!

BONUS! Think of three more questions you would like to add to the Organism Test!
